UVA LOSES TOP TIGHT END TO PENN STATE

All 23 football players who had committed to Virginia, signed national letters of intent Wednesday, but the Cavaliers lost the recruiting battle for the nation's top-rated tight end prospect.

Cuncho Brown, from Parkland High School in Winston-Salem, N.C., announced at a news conference that he had chosen Penn State over Virginia and North Carolina. Brown, a 6-foot-6, 240-pounder, was rated the top player at his position by SuperPrep magazine and also was a Parade magazine and Blue Chip All-America selection.

A 24th Cavaliers recruit, defensive lineman Maurice Anderson from Nottoway by way of Fork Union Military Academy, did not have to sign a letter of intent because he already was enrolled in school.
