CAVALIERS WITHSTAND WILDCAT RALLY

Shannon Williams scored 17 points as Lord Botetourt almost blew an 18-point lead before holding on to beat Rockbridge County 56-50 in a Blue Ridge District boys' basketball game Wednesday night.

The Wildcats (0-15 overall, 0-5 Blue Ridge) cut the lead to three late in the fourth quarter behind Ricky Wright, who scored 13 of his 17 points in the fourth period.

The Wildcats had a chance to tie, but missed a 3-pointer. Williams hit two free throws and Ryan Salvi added a free throw to seal it for the Cavaliers (9-6, 3-5). Salvi finished with 15 and Lee King added 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers.

Rockbridge County 50

SWOOPE - David Buzzard scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter, six of them in a 13-3 run that propelled the Chargers to a non-district victory over Buffalo Gap.

Buffalo Gap (4-13) took its only lead of the game at 36-35 when Josh Simmers made a short jumper on the first possession of the fourth quarter. The Chargers used the scoring run to put away the game.

Kris Phillips and Jon Rogers scored 12 points for Bath County (12-4 ). Todd Townsend added 10.

Simmers scored 15 for Buffalo Gap.

BLAND - The Rockets made 10 of 15 free throws down the stretch to fend off the Bobcats in a non-district game.

Shannon Havens scored 18 points for Bland (7-7) and David Lambert added 13.

Radford's Matt Linkous scored 24 points and made four 3-point attempts. Foster Ridpath and Chuck Hubbard scored 12 for the Bobcats (5-8).

Fieldale-Collinsville 58

Patrick County 47

STUART - Delvin Joyce scored 10 of his 14 points in the first half as the Cavaliers pulled away early in a Piedmont District game.

Fieldale-Collinsville (12-5 overall, 11-3 Piedmont) held Patrick County (5-9, 4-9) to nine points in the first quarter and led by as many as 12 in the third period.

Brian Alley had 11 points for the Cavaliers and Nat Law scored 10.

Ray Hylton led the Cougars with 10 points.
