LAURA GLAZIER and BETTY TOM BRADSHAW have received the Columbia/Healthcare Corporation of America Healthcare employee and volunteer humanitarian awards at Lewis-Gale Hospital.

Glazier is a physical therapy assistant in the rehabilitation department; Bradshaw is an emergency department volunteer.

The award honors employees and volunteers for their humanitarian work both on and off the job.

Glazier was cited for her role in helping a young Haitian refugee family settle in Roanoke, her participation in Habitat for Humanity and for her "on-the-job leadership, humor and sensitivity to others' needs."

Bradshaw was chosen for "her warmth and love of life which is reflected in her attitude and her interactions with all persons," Jean Tyree, registered nurse, said.

LAWRENCE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS in Roanoke has received the "President's Club" award for generating $4 million in business volume for the United Van Lines system during the year ended June 30.

Lawrence is an agent of United Van Lines.

LORETTA L. FREEMAN of the Beltone Hearing Aid Center in Salem was recently granted board certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences.

Board certification requires two years practical experience including 100 hours of hands-on training in the testing of hearing and fitting hearing instruments.

VIRGINIA R. SUMMERELL, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William H. Robertson of Salem, was recently named assistant secretary/treasurer of the Tanger Factory Outlet in Greensboro, N.C.

Summerell is a graduate of Davidson College, Babcock School at Wake Forest University and North Cross School.

BROWN, EDWARDS and CO. L.L.P. has become a member of Associated Accounting Firms International, a group of 30 Certified Public Accountant firms in the United States. Brown, Edwards and Co. passed the membership admission criteria established by the AAFI board of directors.

JACK HARTEIS has been named Chef of the Year for the American Culinary Foundation, Southwestern Virginia Chapter. Harteis has been a member of the chapter for seven years, and is the executive chef for Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke.

ALVIN F. WOODS of Alars Inc. in Vinton, was elected president of the District III Roanoke Valley Independent Automobile Dealers Association. The association provides information and legislative representation to independent dealers.

SHELVA S. PAINTER, general registrar in the city of Roanoke, has been awarded the title Certified Professional General Registrar. Painter received accreditation through a program administered by the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service and the Division of Continuing Education. The program takes a minimum of three years to complete and requires a combination of extensive education and governmental experience.

COLDWELL BANKER VALLEY VIEW REALTORS recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. The company, located on Peters Creek Road, now has 10 working agents.

JOHN H. SCOTT, former director of National Business College campus in Danville, has been named institution compliance officer and senior financial planning director for the college in Roanoke. Scott will serve as liaison between federal and state administrative agencies, and monitor compliance with regulations pertaining to financial aid administration.

CENTRAL FIDELITY NATIONAL BANK INC. has announced the following promotions: Clyde Clark, commercial loan officer in the Corporate Banking Division, Roanoke; Brenda Coffman, branch manager, Buchanan office; and Teresa McBride, credit specialist in the Corporate Banking Division, Roanoke.

HENRY E. ROUTON has been appointed police chief at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem.

He served three years as the first detective hired at the center and was a sergeant in the Roanoke Police Department's detective bureau. He also has worked with the Franklin County Sheriff's Department.

JERRY HUFFMAN, continuity-of-care coordinator at Lewis-Gale Psychiatric Center, has been named the facility's 1994 Columbia/HCA Healthcare Humanitarian Award winner.

The award recognizes people whose daily dedication and concern epitomizes the highest standards of quality and personal commitment.

Huffman has been described as one who ``turns lives around.''

He now will compete for the company's national award. Gail Minter, program manager for the New Hope Christian Therapy Program and Dean Denson, maintenance mechanic, were the other two nominees.

J. LEE E. OSBORNE, with the law firm Carter, Brown & Osborne, P.C. of Roanoke, has been elected a fellow of The American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

The college is an association of lawyers recognized as outstanding practitioners in the field of real estate and trust planning and administration, related taxation, business succession and insurance planning, employee benefits and fiduciary litigation.

RANDY POWERS, employee in Southern State's Roanoke warehouse, recently completed the Southern State Cooperative training school for environmental, health, safety and security representatives.

The five-day seminar was held to train selected employees from Southern States retail points and private dealers so that they could make authorized inspections.

VALORIE P. MACINNIS has been named director of grants for Roanoke schools. She has 15 years of educational and administrative experience and in her last position raised more than $1 million in grant money for St. Joseph's Villa, a Richmond social services agency.

She has an undergraduate degree in psychology from Longwood College and has a master's of education degree in special education with emphasis on developmental disabilities, supported employment and community-based instruction from Virginia Commonwealth University.

LOIS ANNETTE SWESTYN, assistant director of the Honeytree Early Learning Center on McVitty Road, has earned the Child Development Associate credential in recognition of outstanding work with young children.

CDA is the product of a national effort to improve child care by evaluating the skills of child-care providers. Virginia is one of 46 states that recognize CDA in their child-care licensing regulations.

THE BLUE RIDGE MOUNTAINS COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA was recently honored with a Winn-Dixie Good Citizenship Award. The organization received a certificate and a $2,500 contribution.

The awards were established 11 years ago in an effort to recognize efforts of those who provide assistance to young people and communities. Since its beginning, the program has also provided several million dollars to hundreds of organizations throughout the South.

ROBERT A. ARCHER, general manager of the Blue Ridge Beverage Co. Inc. in Salem, has been named the 1995 president of the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association.

The association is a statewide organization with headquarters in Richmond representing Virginia's wholesale beer industry.

TONI BRANDON, a former grant writer and public-relations specialist at Total Action Against Poverty, has been named director of public relations at Saint Paul's College in Lawrenceville. She is a former radio and newspaper reporter and has a bachelor's degree in speech communication and English.

DAVID STEPHEN COX of Roanoke recently earned the District Manager of the Year award for Pat Ryan & Associates, a finance and insurance company based in Chicago.

Cox's territory, which includes Roanoke, West Virginia and portions of Pennsylvania, is rated No.1 by the company.

DAVID VAUGHN and MARGARET THACKER recently received awards from the Roanoke Regional Home Builders Association Inc.

Vaughn, of Dominion Builders, received the presidential award, which was established in 1979 and has been given only four times. It recognizes members who have made outstanding contributions to the association and the building industry over a sustained period of time.

Thacker, of Gurtner Graphics & Printing Co. in Salem, received the Raymond Bryant Memorial Award in recognition of her support and dedication to the industry and willingness to help whenever called upon by her associates. The award was named for a deceased member of the association.
