DREAMA DENISE TOWE, daughter of Daniel and Elaine Towe of Salem, recently was elected student council representative for the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia.
Towe, a junior majoring in foreign affairs, will serve as a liaison between the student body and the administration, faculty and Charlottesville community.
A graduate of Salem High School, Towe also has served on the dining services, student advisory and appropriations committees.
CAVE SPRING JUNIOR HIGH recently announced the names of students who earned a seat in the All-District Band.
Three students made the highest score on their instrument: Ashley Puig, first-chair alto saxophone; James Dixon, first-chair trumpet; and Julie Thacker, first-chair alto clarinet.

THE MEDICAL ASSISTING PROGRAM at National Business College has earned accreditation from the American Association of Medical Assistants and the Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education programs.
As a result of the accreditation, students in the college's medical assisting program are the only such majors in the state eligible to take the Certified Medical Assistants board exam immediately after graduation. Students who pass are designated CMAs.
THOMAS RAMEY McDONALD III of Salem recently earned a degree during the fall commencement at East Carolina University.
McDonald earned a bachelor of science degree in communications.
CHRISTOPHER ROBERT TAYLOR, son of Carolyn and Bobby Woolwine of Salem, graduated from Radford University in August with a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing.

THE VIRGINIA COMMISSION FOR THE ARTS has selected several Roanoke Valley teachers to received money under its 1994-95 Teacher Incentive Grant Program.
The teachers, among 118 statewide, were recognized for having the best in creative and innovative classroom projects that integrate the arts into the basic curriculum.
Roanoke Valley teachers who received this grant are: Katherine Bowman, Elizabeth M. Bursey, Sheryl P. Vaden, and Jinny Wooddall-Gainey, all from Community School; Rose Ann Burgess from Montery Elementary School; Vivian Gobble from Herman L. Horn Elementary School; and Susan C. Mele from W.E. Cundiff Elementary School.
BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE recently named several Roanoke-area students to the dean's list for the fall term. THE OPTIMIST CLUB has announced the winners in its annual essay contest. They are: Vassiliki Farmakis, first place, Fleming-Ruffner Magnet Center; Mark Finney, second, Patrick Henry High School; Catherine Higgins, third, Northside High School.
The winning entry will be submitted to the Optimist District competition in Virginia Beach. The winner of the district competition will be awarded an expense-paid trip to the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, Pa. for a four-day conference on freedom and leadership.
REGINALD SHAREEF, Roanoke, has been named in the third 1994 edition of ``Who's Who Among American Teachers.'' He is an associate professor of politicial science at Radford University.
MARY K. DOWE has won the first Robert L.A. Keeley Scholarship in Respiratory Education.
The $2,500 award was established by the Virginia Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Foundation. Established in 1929, the foundation provides TB research and patient support.
Dowe is a single parent with two children, works full time at the hospital and maintains a 4.00 grade point average as a full- time student in the respiratory care program at the hospital's College of Health Sciences.
Keeley, a Roanoke doctor, has been president of the Virginia Tuberculosis and Respiratory Disease Foundation since 1975. In 1991, he was awarded the Medical Society of Virginia's Community Service Award.
Keeley is graduate of the University of Virginia Medical School and a board certified physician in general and thoracic surgery.
DENA CASSESE, an occupational therapy assistant student from the College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, has received the Rehabilitation Associates, P.C.'s first annual affiliation scholarship. Rehabilitation Associates, P.C. is a Virginia Beach and Richmond-based occupation and physical therapy practice specializing in pediatric and school-based therapy.
