RELIGION BRIEFS

A CONFLICT MANAGEMENT SEMINAR, open to church people, is scheduled Feb. 9 at Colonial Avenue Baptist Church, 4165 Colonial Ave. S.W. Sponsored by the Roanoke Valley Association of Southern Baptists, it will begin with a light meal at 6:30 p.m. Robert Dale of the Virginia Baptist General Board staff in Richmond will lead the seminar that costs $2. UNITY OF ROANOKE VALLEY, 3300 Green Ridge Road, will present a classical pianist and composer known as Cornplanter on Sunday at 2 p.m.

Based in Bellevue, Wash., the composer also presents a spiritual message along with his music. He has made several tapes. An offering will be taken.

Cornplanter also will provide special music at the Sunday Unity services at 9 and 11 a.m.

PRAYING WITH THE TERMINALLY ILL will be the theme of the Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe Monday at 10:30 a.m. for the Roanoke Valley Ministers Conference. The organization of ordained and lay religion professionals meets at Second Presbyterian Church, 214 Mountain Ave. S.W.

Kusse-Wolfe, who has a Quaker background, is minister of nurture at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren.

VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION DAY will be observed Feb. 26 at Melrose Baptist Church, 3520 Peters Creek Road at 2 p.m.

Those who have carried on volunteer mission work under Baptist sponsorship will participate and some will have displays. A goal of the event is to interest more adults in making short-term mission commitments for work, where an invitation is given, both overseas and closer by.

CHRISTIAN COALITION OR CHRISTIAN LEFT? a discussion class on contemporary ethics, will begin Feb. 12 at 9:45 a.m. at Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, 3110 Pioneer Road N.W. The Rev. Linda Kusse-Wolfe, minister of nurture at the church will lead the class.

A COUPLES' SEMINAR, led by Gail and Samuel Thompson, is scheduled Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. at Victory Christian Center, 1806 Loudon Ave. N.W. It includes a Valentine dinner for which there is a charge of $7 per person. Call 343-6203 by Friday to register.

GRACE BAPTIST TEMPLE, a congregation without national affiliation, has marked its 25th anniversary. The house of worship is at 1527 Gilford Road N.W. Currently served temporarily by the Rev. Dr. Daniel R. Mitchell, the congregation has had two other pastors, the Rev. Robert B. Layman, and the Rev. David Huff.

VIRGINIA HEIGHTS BAPTIST CHURCH, through the Virginia Southern Baptist Mary and Elizabeth Project, has begun a ministry to pregnant teens in the Roanoke Valley. Working with social services, church members are collecting furnishings for an apartment for a mother who is without financial resources. Both basic furniture and infant supplies are needed. FRANK PLECITY, a member of Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, has returned from a two-week mission work trip to Grande Colline, Haiti, where he helped build a pipeline to serve two small schools. He took a collection of health kits assembled by children in the vacation Bible school to Haiti.

RALEIGH COURT UNITED METHODIST CHURCH has named Mike Milam its new organist. He is a graduate student in music education at Virginia Tech.

AN EVENING PRAYER GROUP, open to the community, will continue on Tuesday nights for the next six weeks at Raleigh Court Presbyterian Church, 1837 Grandin Road S.W. A Maxie Dunnam workbook will be the resource for the group that meets from 5:30 to 6:30. Sharlene Clow is the leader. Call 343-5541 for more information.

A NEIGHBORHOOD CHILDREN'S PROGRAM for pupils in Fallon Park and Morningside elementary schools, will begin Feb. 14 at Belmont Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1101 Jamison Ave. S.E. For two hours each Tuesday afternoon, children will be offered recreational activities as well as basic Christian teachings and help with homework. For several years the church has sponsored an annual Fun Day neighborhood event. The weekly program represents an expansion of the community service.
