UMASS STAR OUT FOR 3 WEEKS

Massachusetts has lost Marcus Camby, its intimidating shot blocker. The No.1 ranking and the nation's longest winning streak may not be far behind.

The injury was diagnosed Thursday as a strained left hamstring. Team trainer Ron Laham estimated Camby would be out three weeks. John Calipari, the Minutemen's coach, said Camby might not return until the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament March 4.

Yet Calipari's voice had its usual enthusiasm as his mind spun with ways to turn the adversity of Camby's hamstring injury into an advantage.

``For me, this is exciting,'' Calipari said. ``The positive coming out of it is what if, in the NCAA Tournament, [Camby] is in foul trouble. Now the guys on the bench become more prepared because they're getting more minutes.''

Camby was hurt with 8 minutes, 56 seconds left in the first half of the Minutemen's 16th straight win, 74-62 Wednesday night over St. Joseph's.

RADFORD SUSPENDS KENDALL: Eve Kendall, a sophomore post, has been suspended indefinitely from the Radford women's basketball team, Highlanders coach Lubomyr Lichonczak said.

Kendall, a former George Wythe three-sport star, is in violation of team academic requirements, Lichonczak said. She had played in five games this season.
