WALSH AMONG TOP FRESHMEN

Midfielder Billy Walsh of the University of Virginia has been named to the Soccer America All-Freshman team, the magazine announced Thursday.

Walsh scored nine goals and set up six during the 1994 season as the Cavaliers won their fourth consecutive NCAA championship. He started all 26 games for Virginia.

Among those joining Walsh on the All-Freshman team were Leo Cullen of Maryland, Carey Talley of North Carolina and Wade Barrett of William and Mary.

The 44th annual VMI Winter relays indoor track meet will be held Saturday at Walt Cormack Field House in Lexington.

Throwing events start at 9 a.m., and running events begin at 10:30 a.m. Participating teams include Duke, James Madison, Radford, William and Mary, Roanoke College, Lynchburg College, Hampton, Washington and Lee, Western Carolina, East Tennessee State, High Point and the Keydets.
