TECH TOES THE LINE, BEATS UNCC 63-54

Virginia Tech hit 27 of its 32 free-throw attempts and never trailed in beating North Carolina Charlotte 63-54 in a Metro Conference women's basketball game Friday in Charlotte, N.C.

The Hokies' Angela Donnell scored the game's first six points and Virginia Tech (15-6 overall, 5-2 Metro) never led by fewer than six points thereafter.

Tech forward Christi Osborne, who scored just two points in Sunday's loss at Southern Mississippi, led the Hokies with 15 points and nine rebounds Friday. Jenny Root finished with 13 points and Donnell added 10.

Tech snapped a two-game losing streak and has won six straight games against the 49ers (11-6, 2-4).

In other women's games Friday:

No. 12 Virginia 88, Wake Forest 58: At Winston-Salem, N.C., Wendy Palmer and Jeffra Gausepohl each scored 21 points, and the Cavaliers dominated inside en route to an ACC victory over the Demon Deacons.

Palmer and Gausepohl were a combined 18-of-25 from the field as the Cavaliers (17-3, 10-0) shot 55.2 percent and outrebounded Wake Forest (8-12, 1-9) 46-25.

Virginia led by 13 with 11:48 left, then went on a 14-2 run to put the game away.

RaeAnna Mulholland led Wake Forest with 17 points.

Roanoke 83, Guilford 67: At Greensboro, N.C., senior center Crystal Wilson scored a game-high 28 points as the Maroons posted an Old Dominion Athletic Conference victory over the Quakers, earning coach Susan Dunagan her 400th career victory.

Roanoke (14-5, 12-3) led by 12 points in the first half before Guilford (16-3, 12-3) cut it to 39-32 at halftime on Marija Preimats' 3-pointer at the buzzer. Guilford then tied the score at 47 on Preimats' bucket with less than 14 minutes to go in the game. But Roanoke used a 10-2 run to take a 57-49 lead and never looked back.

Roanoke, which held the Quakers to 34 percent shooting and outrebounded them 57-39, also got 11 points each from Amy Athey and Lori Boyd.

Guilford was led by Laura Haynes with 18.

Emory & Henry 73, Washington and Lee 50: At Emory, the Wasps used an 11-0 run midway through the first half to defeat the Generals in an ODAC game. Jackie Green scored 14 points for E&H ( 10-8, 8-7). Sandra Holmes led W&L (5-15, 3-13) with 14 points and Allison Hull added 10.

Randolph-Macon 75, Hollins 54: Jen Kohler's 21 points - including five 3-pointers - helped the visiting Yellow Jackets (14-4, 12-2) down Hollins (2-16, 1-14) in an ODAC game. Sarah Tweedy led Hollins with 11 points.
