EXPRESS TO MAKE LOCAL TV DEBUT

Tonight's Roanoke Express-Charlotte Checkers East Coast Hockey League game will be broadcast live from Charlotte's Independence Arena at 6:30 p.m.

Eight regional cable outlets will carry the telecast. The game can be seen in Roanoke on Cox Cable Channel 9.

Other local systems airing the game include Salem Cable (Channel 13), American Cable Entertainment in Radford (Channel 1), Rocky Mount and Bedford Cablevision (Channel 6), AMC Cablevision in Franklin County (Channel 12), Troutville's Telemedia Cable (Channel 3), Blacksburg Cable (Channel 2) and Virginia Tech Channel 33.

In other sports in the region:

Virginia Tech has instituted a new parking policy for home football games next fall.

Tech officials said Friday that a parking fee of $5 per game will be assessed for parking in the following lots: Lot 1 at Cassell Coliseum; Lot 2 behind the Lane Stadium scoreboard; Lot 3 across Southgate Drive from Lot 2; and the Litton Reeves parking area near the football practice field.

All proceeds from the parking fees will got toward the funding of athletic scholarships.

A season parking pass will be offered. The pass can be purchased by using the football-ticket order form for season and individual game tickets.
