MILLIRONS, HUDGINS PLAY CRUCIAL ROLES IN AUBURN VICTORY

RINER - Terry Millirons scored 24 points and Bradley Hudgins played a fine all-around game to lead Auburn past Giles 77-65 on Friday night in a Three Rivers District boys' game.

Hudgins had 14 points and led the Eagles (11-4 overall, 3-1 district) with seven assists, eight rebounds and four steals. Auburn slowly built its advantage, leading by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter.

Jon Reed scored 16 points and Kenny Wojciechowski had 15 for Auburn.

Aaron Myers led the Spartans (7-6, 2-2) with 16 points, John King had 12, Josh Stephens 11 and Raypheal Milton 10.

Radford 49

Shawsville 40

SHAWSVILLE - The Bobcats came into the Shawnees' gym seeking revenge for a four-point loss to Shawsville in Radford this season, and they got it with a Three Rivers District victory.

The victory over the Bobcats had ended Shawsville's 42-game losing streak, but the Shawnees have not won a game since that meeting.

Foster Ridpath led the way for Radford (6-8, 2-2), burning Shawsville for 23 points.

Jeremy Nichols was the high scorer for the Shawnees (1-15, 1-4), scoring all but eight of Shawsville's points with a game-high 32.

INDEPENDENCE - Senior Russ Lambert scored a career-high 21 points, including five 3-pointers, as the Blue Devils, the fourth-ranked team in the state sportswriters' Group A poll, used a big second half to pull away from the Maroon Tide in a Mountain Empire District game.

Grayson County (12-3, 4-1) pulled away after leading by one at halftime. Bryan Boyer led the second-half charge by scoring 20 of his 21 points after intermission, including three dunks. Boyer also had seven rebounds and six assists for the Blue Devils.

Chad Shaffner scored 16 of his 17 points in the second half and finished with 12 rebounds to lead Grayson County.

Galax (6-8, 0-5) was led by Ken Houtz, who scored 18 points, and Jeff Ross added 14.

BUCHANAN - Curtis Nolan scored 21 points and hit three 3-pointers to lead the Knights past the Rockets in a Pioneer District game.

James River (7-8, 4-4) outrebounded Craig County 34-12, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds. Shahan Burrell had 13 points and 10 rebounds, Jason Peery had 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Craig County (5-13, 1-7) tried to stay close with 3-point shooting. The Rockets made nine 3-pointers, including four by Jamie Fisher, who finished with 20 points.

Rocky Gap 54

Bland 34

ROCKY GAP - Nathan Blessing scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half before a packed gymnasium as the Eagles dropped the rival Rockets in the Mountain Empire District.

Rocky Gap (9-5, 3-1) used a 1-2-2 zone defense to clamp down on Bland (7-8, 2-3) in the first half, allowing the Rockets only 12 points, including three in the second quarter.

Eric Faulkner added 12 points, six rebounds, six steals and five assists for the Eagles, and Will Dodson scored 10.

Shannon Havens led Bland with 15.
