The Star, which captured the title in the under-19 premier division, received regulation goals from Tait Duus and Chris Hewitt. Roanoke won four matches, and goalkeeper Michael Creasey posted three shutouts.

The Virginia Tech women's track and field team finished second in a meet in Blacksburg. The Hokies led 97-92 going into the final event, but Appalachian State runners finished second, third and fifth in the 55-meter dash to pick up 15 points and win the meet 107-97.
The Hokies 4x400 relay team of Julie Reeser, Amy Cowan, Detra Edmunds and Erin Graham set a school record with a time of 3:57.2 to finish first. Meredith Newby and Johli Carscallen helped the Hokie cause by placing first and second in the 20-pound weight and Michelle Smith won the shotput with a throw of 39 feet, 6 inches.
On the men's side, only three teams competed, and Liberty dominated by winning eight of 15 events. The Hokies' 4x400 team picked up a first-place finish to go with Nick LaRosa's victory in the 800 and former Cave Spring standout John Hawthorne's winning of the 3,000.
