EAGLES FALL AT GW-DANVILLE DESPITE RALLY

Bobby Wimbush made two free throws with 12 seconds left to lift GW-Danville past Franklin County 71-68 in a boys' non-district game Saturday night.

Franklin County (9-6) trailed by as many as 14 points in the second quarter before rallying to take a 62-58 lead in the fourth quarter.

GW-Danville tied the score at 68 and shut out Franklin County the rest of the way. The Eagles' Carlos Holland missed a 3-point attempt to tie at the buzzer.

The Eagles were led by Chad Foutz, who scored nine of his game-high 20 points in the third quarter to cut the Eagles' deficit to six after three quarters. K.C. Hancock scored 10 of his 14 points in the final period.

Wimbush scored 17 points, Nathan Poole 16 and Tetrick Graves 12 for GW-Danville, which made eight of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter. Franklin County was plagued by six-of-13 free-throw shooting.

Holy Cross 68

LYNCHBURG - Roger Colliner and Julius Esquerra scored 11 points apiece in the first half as Holy Cross built a 35-26 halftime lead it never relinquished in a Virginia Independent Conference game.

Colliner finished with a game-high 19 points for Holy Cross while Abe Hughes added 18 and Esquerra 16.

The Celtics (6-13, 5-6) were led by Alex Dickson's 14 points. Chris Lothes scored 12 points and Aki Al-Zubadi 10 for Roanoke Catholic, playing for the second straight game without its leading scorer, Tony Joyce (thigh bruise).

Christiansburg 73

Auburn 70

RINER - John Hairston's off-balance, fall-away jumper with two seconds left gave Christiansburg a 71-70 lead and the Blue Demons rallied to defeat Auburn in a non-district game.

The Blue Demons trailed by 13 at halftime and by eight after three quarters before Hairston led a fourth-quarter comeback by scoring 16 of his game-high 26 points, including four 3-pointers and two free throws with two-tenths of a second remaining after an Auburn technical foul.

Darrell Calloway scored 18 points and Carlton Ashbrook 11 for the Blue Demons.

Auburn (11-5) was led by Bradley Hudgins, who scored 19 points and made 11 assists to account for 41 of Auburn's points. The Eagles also got 17 points from Jon Reed and 14 apiece from Terry Millirons and Kenny Wojciechowski.
