WOLVERINE FIRE CAUSES $12,000 IN DAMAGES

A fire at Wolverine Gasket and Manufacturing Co. Sunday caused about $12,000 in damage and one employee was treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews responded to the fire at about 5:35 p.m., and found the building's air makeup unit engulfed in smoke. They quickly extinguished it, and an investigation revealed that the blaze was caused by an electrical short.

Randy Martin, 31, of Pembroke, an employee at the Blacksburg Industrial Park plant, was treated for smoke inhalation at Montgomery Regional Hospital and released, a police news release stated.

Wolverine Plant Manager Al Guarino said production ceased for the three to four hours that fire crews were on the scene, but resumed afterward and was proceeding normally Monday.
