CITADEL ENDS VMI'S BRIEF WINNING STREAK

MONCRIEF MICHAEL pumps in 35 points to scorch the Keydets.

The Citadel 84, VMI 69: In Charleston, S.C., VMI's three-game Southern Conference winning streak came to an end as Moncrief Michael scored 35 points for The Citadel.

The Keydets (5-13, 3-5) led by two points at halftime, but The Citadel shot 66.7 percent (16-for-24) in the second half to pull away.

Michael hit 13 of 20 field-goal attempts and made nine of 15 free throws.

Former Lord Botetourt standout Bobby Prince led VMI with 16 points. Lawrence Gullette added 14 points and Maurice Spencer 11 for the Keydets, who shot 43.1 percent (28-for-65) and made only six of 27 3-point attempts.

Chip Humphries scored 14 points, Chad Leonard 12 and Matt Newman 11 for The Citadel (8-11, 3-5).
