LIBERTY TOO STRONG FOR NELSON COUNTY

Gregg Reynolds led Liberty, the top-ranked team in Timesland, to a 73-59 boys' basketball victory Monday over Seminole District rival Nelson County.

Reynolds had a game-high 24 points for the Minutemen (16-1) and Steven Shrader tossed in 11.

Chad Loving was the high scorer for the Governors, with 19 points. Scotty Barber added 12 points for Nelson County (5-11) and grabbed 11 rebounds in the losing effort.

STUART - Corey Reynolds scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lift the Cougars to a non-district victory.

Patrick County (6-10) pulled away by making 10 of 14 free throws in the final quarter. Ray Hylton added 12 points and brother Ben had 10 for Patrick County.

Carroll County (4-13), which was down eight going into the fourth quarter, tried to comeback behind Matt Larrowe, who scored 10 of his team-high 14 in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough. Kevin Dalton added 10 for the Cavaliers.

BLACKSBURG- The Indians held the G-Men to just three free throws in the first quarter and blasted Graham in a non-district game.

The G-Men could find no answer to the Indians' defense, failing to score a field goal until the 5:20 mark in the second period.

Anthony Wheeler also proved to be unstoppable for the Indians, scorching Graham for a game-high 24 points. Trent Peterson added 11 for Blacksburg (6-10).

Graham's (7-8) highest scorer was Rusty Rose with eight points.

Girls

Franklin County 63

Patrick Henry 45

ROCKY MOUNT - Sarah Jones scored 16 points and Betty Smith added 15 as the Eagles rolled past the Patriots in the Roanoke Valley District.

Franklin County (9-7, 4-5) jumped out to a 35-17 halftime lead and never trailed.

Tasha Williams grabbed 11 rebounds for the Eagles.

Erin Rutherford led Patrick Henry (0-16, 0-9) with 14 points.
