Author Gary C. Walker will hold a book signing Saturday and Sunday at the Roanoke Books-A-Million store in Crossroad Mall. Walker will be dressed in a Confederate soldier's uniform while autographing four of his books on Civil War history.
Ballet auditions
Southwest Virginia Ballet will hold open auditions for prospective company members Sunday at the Post School of Ballet Studio, 1324 Grandin Road S.W., Roanoke.
Dancers ages 11-13 will take an audition class from 1 to 3 p.m. Dancers age 14 and older will audition from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Bring pointe shoes if you have them.
The Ballet, directed by Terri Post, is a nonprofit company that presents at least two major productions each year.

Benefit concert
Five Roanoke-area bands will hold a concert Friday evening at the Iroquois Club downtown to benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Council.
Bands include Chelsea Monday and Societal Dropout of Wytheville; Tempered Steel, Crank and Plastic Martyr of Roanoke.
Tickets for the 8:30 p.m. concert are $6 for adults, $4 for minors.
