CHARETTE COMPETITION NEXT WEEK AT TECH

Virginia Tech is sponsoring a unique design competition Feb 16-18 featuring students from six departments.

In the competition, called a "charette," the students will be given a specific problem on the morning of Feb. 17 - and a deadline. They'll have until midnight to come up with their design.

On Feb. 16, Robin Moore, faculty member in North Carolina State's landscape architecture department, and Jean Vogler, assistant director of Virginia Tech's Child Development lab, will talk about "Designing for Creative Play."

During the charette, eight teams, each with one student from the departments of apparel design, art, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture and theatre arts, will compete. They will be provided with adequate materials and work space in Wallace Hall Atrium, where visitors are welcome during the contest.

The teams will make presentations and their designs will be judged the next morning.
