Assessment notices in Floyd

Floyd County property owners should be receiving 1995 reassessment notices this week.

The assessment is the first since 1989 and shows an average 28 percent increase in value across the county.

Wingate and Associates, a Roanoke appraisal firm, considered a range of factors, including location, size, construction cost, quality of construction, condition of buildings, and access to utilities and amenties. Sales which were higher or lower than typical sales were not considered.

The assessment studied all sales in 1992, 1993, and the first half of 1994.

Assessments are available to the public at the Reassessment Office. Real estate taxes based on the new assessment will be used to figure 1995 taxes.

Property owners who believe they may not have been fairly assessed can contact the county assessor.
