CAVE SPRING WIN MARKED BY MILESTONE

Cave Spring overcame a nine-point halftime deficit, and Aimee Beightol scored the 1,000th point of her career as the Knights defeated William Fleming 65-52 on Wednesday night in a Roanoke Valley District girls' game.

Beightol needed nine points to reach 1,000 and did so with a three-point play in the second quarter. She scored 25 to lead Cave Spring (14-4 overall, 8-2 district).

Felicia Manns had 21 points and 11 rebounds for Fleming (10-6, 3-6). Manns scored 12 in the first half as the Colonels went up 30-21.

In the second half, the Knights mixed their press with a half-court zone to create turnovers and take the lead.

Jaclyn Banks added 12 points for Cave Spring.

Kiann Trent and Kelly Irving each scored 12 for Fleming.

Pulaski County 69

The Cougars outscored the Patriots 17-2 in the first quarter and never looked back in cruising to a Roanoke Valley District victory.

Jodie Hallett scored seven of her game-high 14 points in the first quarter, including both of her 3-pointers, to lead Pulaski County (16-2, 8-1). The Cougars also got 10 points from Robin Bower.

Patrick Henry (0-16, 0-10) did not have a scorer in double figures.

ROCKY MOUNT - Trailing by nine points early in the first quarter, the Eagles found themselves in danger of being blown out by the Patriots and falling into a last-place tie with PH in the Roanoke Valley District standings.

But Franklin County responded with a 15-0 run to take the lead, and Chad Foutz made the front end of a one-and-one opportunity with 13 seconds left as the Eagles (10-7, 2-3) kept the Patriots (6-11, 0-6) winless in the district.

After Foutz missed the second free-throw attempt, PH rebounded the ball and worked it to Chris Combs, who was fouled with 3.1 seconds left. But Combs missed the front end of his one-and-one, and Franklin County's Carlos Holland picked up the loose ball to secure the victory.

The Colonels' inside duo of Sterling Tate and James Stokes combined for 42 points as William Fleming roared past the Pioneers in a non-district game at William Fleming.

Tate finished with a game-high 22 points and had seven rebounds, and Stokes added 20 points and eight rebounds for the Colonels.

William Fleming (13-7) also got 12 points from Keath Hampton, including two 3-pointers. Derrick Hines had 11 points and seven assists.

Heritage (6-11) was led by Lewis Tardy, who scored 12 points.

Bassett 55

BASSETT - Michael McGuire scored 20 points and Chris Childress added 18 as the Terriers rolled past the Bengals for a non-district victory.

McGuire scored 11 points in the second quarter as William Byrd (15-3) outscored Bassett 21-9 to take a 39-26 lead. The Bengals cut their deficit to seven during the fourth quarter, but the Terriers sank 15 of 17 free throws in the period to pull away

Chris Hairston had 12 points for Bassett (11-7).

Tuesday's game

Stuart Hall 32, Roanoke Valley Christian 28: In Staunton, Stuart Hall (9-6, 6-3) thwarted a fourth-quarter comeback to post a Blue Ridge Conference girls' victory over the Eagles (11-6, 6-4)
