St. Clair, who lives in Christiansburg, had already told county Republicans of her intent to run for the spot vacated by retiring Democratic Commissioner Robertine Jordan. State trooper Steve Fijalkowski, also a Republican who wants that position, made his official announcement last week. Jordan's chief deputy, Nancy Miller, is seeking the Democratic nomination.
"Working in the treasurer's office has made me have the desire to continue in public service," St. Clair said Friday, three days shy of her 40th birthday.
St. Clair has worked as an accountant in the treasurer's office for 11 years. She previously worked for 11 years in the accounts receivable department at DK Management, formerly in Christiansburg and now located in Wytheville.
"My years of office and administrative experience have given me training in what makes offices operate efficiently," St. Clair said in a news release. "Every aspect of the commissioner of revenue's office directly affects the treasurer's office thus giving me invaluable insight of the needs of the people in Montgomery County."
She said Friday that her objective is to meet those needs.
St. Clair is actively involved in the Montgomery County Republican Party, and this year serves as its vice chairman.
She has a husband, Raymond, and a son, Brad.
