PULASKI FURNITURE PREDICTS GOOD YEAR

Many large retailers had disappointing December and January sales and fear that business is slowing down, but Pulaski Furniture Co. hasn't seen any fallout yet, said chairman Bernard C. Wampler.

Wampler on Friday told the company's shareholders that a new plant that opened last year in Pulaski is running well but won't reach its "earnings potential" until a second shift is added this year.

The plant gives the company unparalleled price advantage for its core business, curio cabinets, John Wampler, president, said. Pulaski has developed a partnership with Electronic Data Systems for it to operate the company's computer systems, he said.

Other partnerships will follow, he said.

First quarter 1995 results announced at the meeting were considerably better than first quarter 1994. Net sales were $41.3 million compared with $32.1 million in the 1994 quarter and net income was $1.3 million, or 48 cents a share, compared with 39 cents a share in 1994, which included 14 cents related to an accounting change for income taxes.

For the year ended Oct. 30, net income was $3.2 million, or $1.10 per share, compared with $4.4 million, or $1.53 a share, the previous year. Income in 1994 was increased by $396,092, or 14 cents per share, by the first quarter accounting change for income taxes.
