Martin has a bachelor's degree in political science from Virginia Tech and a bachelor of business administration in quantitative analysis from Boise State University. He also earned a paralegal certificate from the National Center for Paralegal Training in Atlanta, Ga., and had personnel administration training in the U.S. Navy.
Originally from the West Coast, Martin has lived on this side of the country for the past 10 years and the New River Valley for the past five years. He moved to Blacksburg after his Navy service to continue his education at Virginia Tech. While in college, he held part-time jobs working with computers and the U.S. Postal Service.
His wife, Beth, is also a Virginia Tech graduate.
