The Minutemen, ranked third among the state's Group AA teams, sent Apperson to the line twice in the final 30 seconds and he was perfect on four tries as the Lancers kept Liberty from clinching the district title.
The loss ended the Minutemen's 16-game winning streak. Liberty, which defeated Amherst 65-63 in January, hadn't lost since its opener at Brookville.
The Minutemen (16-2 overall and district) have cinched at least a tie for the regular-season crown in the Seminole. Stephan Shrader was the only double-figure scorer for Liberty, with 17 points.
Apperson's 19 points paced Amherst (14-4, 14-4), which is second in the district standings.

The Celtics built an 18-point halftime lead land held off a rally by the Saints.
St.Anne's-Belfield closed to 61-60 with five seconds left, but Chris Roberts stripped the ball from the Saints on their potential game-winning drive. The Celtics made four free throws in the closing seconds and prevented St.Anne's-Belfield from touching the ball in the last five seconds.
Tony Joyce led Roanoke Catholic (8-13) with 12 points and Brendan McCarthy added 11 points.
Michael Trotter scored a game-high 18 points for the Saints (7-10).

Skip Johnson sank four free throws in the final 48 seconds as the Raiders edged the Tigers in a Virginia Independent Conference matchup.
North Cross led 38-37 at halftime and outscored Hargrave Military Academy (9-6, 6-6) 18-13 in the third quarter to increase its lead to six. Hargrave rallied to tie the score at 67 with 1:03 left, but Skip Johnson hit his first two free throws to give the Raiders (9-9, 6-5) a two-point lead. Hal Johnson stole the ball on Hargrave's ensuing possession and passed it to Skip Johnson, who was fouled and sank his last two free throws with nine seconds left.
Hal Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds for North Cross. John Prillaman added 13 points and six assists.
P.J. Short led Hargrave with 15 points.

BUCKINGHAM - Hunter Hoggatt scored a game-high 26 points, including three 3-pointers, as the Golden Eagles rolled to a Seminole District victory over the Knights.
Cornelius Foxx added 19 points for Staunton River (13-5, 13-5).
Dwayne Braxton led Buckingham (1-18, 1-18) in scoring, pouring in 20 points.

LEXINGTON - The Spartan shot 72 percent from the floor and 12 Salem players scored as they kept the Wildcats winless.
Matt Woolwine led the Spartans (11-7, 6-2) to the Blue Ridge District victory with 17 points, including 10 in the first half as they opened a 50-25 lead. Chad Pendleton scored all 12 of his points in the first half and Ryan Reeves had 16 points for Salem.
Jason Remillard had 10 points to lead Rockbridge County (0-18, 0-8).

MONTEREY - The Highlanders outscored the Rams 21-5 in the closing three minutes to pull away for a Pioneer District victory.
Jason Darnell led all scorers, contributing 21 points for Glenvar (10-6, 5-2) and James Williams chipped in 12. Nick Varney and Eric East added 11 points each for the Highlanders.
T.J. Honaker poured in 17 points for Highland (6-11, 1-9).

Mark Arbogast hit two clutch 3-pointers as the Eagles used a late run to put away Timberlake Christian in a Virginia Independent Conference game.
Roanoke Valley Christian (10-9, 5-6) went on a 9-4 to run to finish the game after Timberlake Christian had pulled to 58-55. Arbogast then hit two of his four 3-pointers and scored eight of his team-high 18 points.
The Eagles also got 16 points from Joel Nester and 12 from Simon Foster.
Timberlake Christian (14-8, 6-7) was led by Jason Spear, who scored 20 points - 15 in the first half on 3-pointers.

HOT SPRINGS - The Chargers broke open a close game with a 31-point second quarter and went on to conquer the Knights in a Pioneer District game.
David Buzzard scored nine of his 13 points in the second quarter as Bath County (12-5, 6-3) opened a 23-point lead. The Chargers, who shot a season-best 57 percent from the floor, also got 13 points from Billy Thomas and 11 from Kris Phillips.
Two of the best players for James River (8-9, 5-5) were plagued by foul trouble as Jason Peery and Shahan Burrell each picked up his third personal in the second quarter. Burrell finished with a team-high 12 points and Peery had two.

COVINGTON - Robbie Huffman, denied in his last try to break the 1,000-point barrier, reached the career milestone in a major way, but the Cougars spoiled the moment by cruising to a Pioneer District victory.
Covington (11-6, 7-2) used balance to overshadow Huffman's 32 points and six 3-pointers. Erwin Twitty led four Cougars in double figures, scoring 24 points. Dusty Roman scored 15, Brian Holloway had 14 and Mike Barber added 10.
Huffman notched his 1,000th point with a 3-pointer at the 1-minute, 40-second mark of the first quarter.

ROCKY MOUNT - The Colonels shut out the Eagles for a nine-minute span in the first and second quarters, then held on for a Roanoke Valley District victory.
Franklin County (9-8, 4-6) cut its deficit to three points by halftime, but Fleming (11-6, 4-6) took control in the third quarter and never looked back.
Felicia Manns led the Colonels with 19 points, Ravonda Barber scored 12 and Kiann Trent added 10.
Betty Smith had a game-high 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Eagles.

The Eagles slowly pulled away, outscoring Timberlake 17-5 in the fourth quarter to win the Blue Ridge Conference game.
Gina Guthrie scored 12 points to lead Roanoke Valley Christian (12-6, 6-4). Debbie Phillips led Timberlake (6-12, 3-7) with 13.
