ALDERMAN, Gatha Huff, 82, of Floyd, passed away Thursday, February 9, 1995, in a Montgomery County hospital. She is survived by her husband, Arnold R. Alderman, Floyd; one sister, Alzora Huff Wood, Floyd; three brothers, Edmund Huff, Thurman (``Jack"") Huff, Coolidge Huff, all of Floyd; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 11, 1995, at 2 p.m. at Gardener Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Earles and Rev. Ralph Spradling officiating. BEAN, Roland F., 73, of Niceville, Fla., formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, February 9, 1995. Surviving are his wife, Jean Holt Bean; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Marianne; son, Gary H. COOK, Mamie Sue McCoy, 87, of Spruce Run, died Friday, February 10, 1995 at the home of her son, Mrs. Cook was born at Spruce Run on November 4, 1907, a daughter of the late James Harvey Garfield and Maude Lou Va ught McCoy. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge #100 I.O.O.F. for 33 years, a member and held several offices in the Spruce Run Home Demonstration Club, with over 50 years service, a member of the Giles County Historical Society and a charter member of the 1st Christian Church, Newport, where she was active in the C.W.F. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Walter Daniel Cook Sr., a daughter, Joyce Cook Tribble, a sister, Cleo J. McCoy, and a brother, James Ralph McCoy. She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, W. Daniel Jr. and Bobbie Cook, Spruce Run; four grandchildren, Mary Katherine Tribble Sowers, Kinston, N.C., Susan Tribble Ehinger, Charlottesville, Michele Cook Harless, Radford, Walter D. ``Dan"" Cook III, Blacksburg; one sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen ``Hun"" and Ira F. Williams, Mt. Lake, Va.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred L. and Betty McCoy, and I. K. ``Tee"" and Bernice McCoy, all of Spruce Run; four great-grandchildren. COX, Stella L., 82, of Willis, passed away February 9, 1995. at Lewis Gale Hospital, Salem. She was born March 16, 1912 in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Beverly Lindsey and Ida Marshall Lindsey. Mrs. Cox is survived by one son, Coy W. Cox, Salem; three sisters, Iva Sutphin, Willis, Mazie Warner, Hillsville, Thelma Marshall, Falling Waters, W.Va.; grandson, Jeffrey Cox; great-granddaughter, Kristen Dawn Cox,. GARVIN, Virginia Conner, 67, of Hurt, died Thursday, February 9, 1995 in Blue Ridge Nursing Home, Martinsville, Va. She was a retired elementary school Librarian. She is survived by her husband, Vernon B. Garvin, Hurt; two sons, Vernon B. Garvin III, Bassett, Dale Lee Garvin, Danville; two sisters, Effie Lawrence, King Ferry, N.Y., Alice Lawrence, Roanoke; one brother, Harvey Conner, Floyd; two grandchildren, Christina Garvin, Mary Garvin; two stepgrandchildren, Angela Townsend, Dorothy Calaman; and one stepgreat-grandson, Johnathan Townsend. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday at the Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, Floyd, with the Rev. Mark Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. HARRIS, Kyle Thomas, 79, of Radford, died Friday, February 10, 1995, in a Radford hospital. He was a retired employee of New River Textiles. Surviving are his wife, Vannie F. Harris, Radford; two daughters, Patricia Steppe, Lynchburg, Vanessa Smith, Richlands, N.C.; one sister, Gertrude Hillsman, Jacksonville, Fla.; four grandchildren; one great-grandson also survive. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in the Chapel of Highland Memory Gardens with the Rev. Clarence Dishman officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum. HILTON, Emma Jean, 63, of Salem, died Thrusday, February 9 , 1995. She was a lifelong Salem resident and was preceded in death by her husband, John G. Hilton. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Linda H. and William ``Bill"" Buchanan; brother, Archie Wells; sisters, Josephine Barksdale, Christine Harris, Virginia Ulrey, and Ruth Hubble. HITE, Mamie Cash, 87, of Roanoke, formerly of Augusta Co., died Thursday, February 9, 1995, in Friendship Manor. She was the widow of Daniel Harrison Hite and daughter of the late Daniel Gleason and Lisa Fitzgerald Cash. Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine ``Candy"" Snyder, Augusta Co, Joyce Henderson, Franklin Co.; three sons, Harrison Hite, Augusta Co., Oliver Hite and James Hite, both of Roanoke; one sister, Onie Arnold, Shenandoah; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. HOKE, Frances Zollman, 68, of Lexington, died Thursday, February 9, 1995 at her home. Mrs. Hoke was born June 14, 1926 in Rockbridge County, a daughter of the late Coleman Miller Zollman and Mary Jessie Ramsey Zollman. She was a member of the Oxford Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Hoke was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Edward Hoke, a son, Mike Hoke, and a daughter, Iva Lewis Hoke. Surviving are a son, Coleman Hoke, Lexington; a daughter, Monica H. Rexrode, Monterey; a brother, Charles Graham Zollman, Lexington; two sisters, Martha Lee Campbell, Silversprings, Fla., Ethel Fisher, Buena Vista; and five grandchildren. HURT, Jean Overstreet, 39, of Route 7, Bedford, died Thursday, February 9, 1995 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Columbia, S. C. on August 9, 1955, a daughter of Russell Perry Overstreet Jr. and Betty Jean Seawell Overstreet. She was a member of Otterville United Methodist Church and also a member of Northside Riding Club, Halifax County Riding Club and the Bedford County Horseman Association. Jean attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from Central Virginia Community College. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Kenneth Logan Hurt; two daughters, Sandra M. Hurt and Frances A. Hurt, both of Bedford; one broth er, Russell Perry Overstreet III, Columbia, S. C.; one sister, Jan Overstreet, Columbia, S. C.; and her grandmother, Erma K. Overstreet, Bedford. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 1995, at Otterville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Marshal F. Driskill and the Rev. James Blankenbaker officiating. JENKINS, Loyd Allen, 70, of Natural Bridge Station, died Thursday, February 9, 1995, at his home. Mr. Jenkins was born March 16, 1924, in Bedford County, a son of the the late Elisha Edward Jenkins and Mamie Hensley Jenkins. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church and retired from burlington, Ind. Surviving are four sisters, Dolly Edwards, Lelia Johnson, Katie Mason, all of Natural Bridge Station, Mildred Painter, Lynchburg; four brothers, Wyatt C. Jenkins, Edward Jenkins, Cecil Jenkins, Marvin Jenkins, all of Natural Bridge Station; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 1995, in the Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Gregory P. Pearce and the Rev. Nathan Miller officiating. JENNINGS, Dr. Eileen Thorpe, 68, of Bedford, died Friday, February 10, 1995 at Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 11, 1926, a daughter of the late John James Thorpe and Margaret Moylan Thorpe. A graduate of Brown University and the Medical College of Virginia, she had been a family physician in Bedford for forty-three years. She served on the Board of Directors of Bedford County Memorial Hospital, and also served for many years on the Board of Directors of the Bedford County Memorial Hospital Foundation. She was Board Certified in family practice and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. She was a communicant of Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas H. Jennings; two sons and daughters-in-law, John Thomas and Julia Parrish Jennings, Richlands, Scott Christian and Cathy Lynn Jennings, Fisher, W. Va.; two daughters, Ann Teresa Jennings, Salem, and Kathryn Beth Jennings, Bedford; four sisters, Betty T. Caulley and Helen T. Bedard, both of West Barrington, RI, Claire Thorpe, Pawtucket, RI, Marie T. Hewson, Los Angeles, Calif.; and also, six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 13, 1995 at 11 a.m. at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, with the Rev. Fr. James J. Begley officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Carder-Tharp Funeral Home. MINTER, June Frazier, 57, of 815 Hazelwood Lane, Martinsville, died Thursday, February 9, 1995, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, Winston-Salem, N.C. She was born July 29, 1937 in Henry County the daughter of the late Fred C. Frazier and Katherine Bray Frazier. She was Office Manager at Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Inc. in Martinsville and a long time member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church, Martinsville. She is survived by her husband, J. Ronnie Minter; a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Susan Kimberley) Artz of Waynesboro; a son, James Ronnie Minter Jr. of Martinsville; a sister, Mrs. Harless (Jo Anne) Gardner of Martinsville; three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from Chatham Heights Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday. Interment will be in Roselawn Burial Park. ROOP, William Jackson, (``Bill""), 70, of Radford, passed away Thursday, February 9, 1995 at Radford Community Hospital. He was a member of Radford Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon, Elder, Chairman of the Board, and had served on numerous committees. He retired from Lynchburg Foundry after 32 years of service and also from Federal Mogul, after 14 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII, where he served in the Air Corps in the 385th Bomb Group, and 548th Bomb Squadron. He was awarded the Air Medal and two gold leaf clusters and a Purple Heart. He was a life member of the 385th Bomb Group Association since 1976. He was a member of the VFW Post #776 Radford. Survivors include his wife, Marie Hines Roop, Radford; sons, William A. and Cheryl M. Roop, Valdez, Alaska, D. Jackson Roop and Teri Willis, Lynchburg; daughter, Donna and Douglas Blount, Roanoke; seven grandchildren, Wendy Roop, Park City, Utah, Adam Roop, San Diego, Calif., Christopher Roseberry, Statesboro, Ga., Cameron Blount, Roanoke, Shay Roop and Jeremy Roop, both of Lynchburg, and Kelli Blount, Charlotte, N. SNYDER, Theodore Davis, 81, of Buena Vista, died Friday, February 10, 1995, at the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center. Born in Buena Vista on December 25, 1913, he was the son of the late Harry C. Snyder Sr. and Lillian S. Davis Snyder. Mr. Snyder was a WWII veteran. He was a member of the Buena Vista Presbyterian Church and a retired Restaurateur. Survivors include his wife, Nancy James Snyder, Buena Vista; three daughters, Jacqueline S. Greene, Palmyra, Patricia S. Makinson, Lexington, Marjory S. Wright, Dumfries; a son, Theodore J. Snyder, Buena Vista; three brothers, Maurice Snyder, Buena Vista, Vernon L. Snyder, Lexington, T. Earle Snyder, Collierstown; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. SPRADLIN, Nina Markham, 85, of Bedford County, died Thursday, February 9, 1995. She was the widow of Clifton Herbert Spradlin. Survivors include a daughter and son-law, Linda J. and Melvin C.
