GIRLFRIEND FACES CHARGE IN STABBING

P U ING o 42-year-old Pulaski County woman has been charged in the stabbing death late Friday night of her live-in boyfriend.

The man was identified as Rickey Douglas Rakes, 38, who was living at the River Bend Trailer Park in the New River section of the county.

Sheriff Ralph Dobbins said the sheriff's office got an emergency call on the stabbing about 10:15 p.m. Friday. When officers arrived, they found Rakes suffering from numerous stab wounds.

Rakes was taken to Radford Community Hospital, where he died.

Dobbins said Betty Joann Woolridge Parks told officers that Rakes started to beat her, and she picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed him.

Parks was being held in the Pulaski County jail Saturday without bond. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Officers were still interviewing several other people who had been in the trailer at the time, Dobbins said.

The information obtained so far, he said, indicates that Rakes had been lying down in the trailer's back bedroom when Parks went back to awaken him and the incident occurred.
