16-YEAR-OLD DIES IN CRASH

A Clifton Forge youth was killed Saturday night when his car swerved off Interstate 64 in Alleghany County, according to a state police report.

Frank Leonard Beard Jr., 16, was traveling east on Interstate 64 about a half-mile east of Virginia 696 at 8:55 p.m., when he apparently lost control of his car. The car swerved into the median, flipped several times, then came to rest on its top.

Five other teen-agers in the car were treated at Alleghany Regional Hospital and released.

Beard was pronounced dead of head injuries at 9:51 p.m., according to hospital reports. State police said he was not wearing a seat belt.
