POLICE SAY SUSPECT NOT UPSET BY DEATH

The man charged in the death of his grandmother Saturday showed no signs of sadness during questioning, Roanoke Police said Sunday.

Kenny Morris, 32, was arrested Saturday night after police found him sitting near the body of Geneva Weatherford in her home at 2335 Centre Ave.

Roanoke Detective Neil Tolrud said he spent two hours Sunday morning questioning Morris.

"He didn't give a statement of any significance," Tolrud said. "He wasn't sad about any of it."

Weatherford was found by a neighbor, face down on her living room floor, covered with trash. Police said the 70-year-old woman had been severely beaten in the head.

An autopsy of Weatherford's body today will determine the official cause of death.

Neighbors became concerned about Weatherford when they hadn't seen her outside in several days.

Morris had been seen coming in and out of his grandmother's home since earlier last week.

Morris' arraignment hearing was scheduled for this morning in Juvenile and Domestic Court, where he will be appointed an attorney, Tolrud said.
