ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

Despite appearances, January was a good month for building permits in the Roanoke Valley. The $9.7 million in new construction compared with $19.3 million in the same month last year and 84.5 percent above December's $5.3 million. But of the January 1994 total, more than $15 million was for the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center.

Roanoke County issued $5 million in permits, Roanoke $3.3 million and Salem $1.3 million.
