CARE FOR A ROOM?

Groups have booked the equivalent of 70,000 nights of lodging at the Hotel Roanoke and Convention Center through 2002, and individuals can begin reserving rooms next week.

The hotel will start taking regular reservations Monday at 8:30 a.m. on its local number, 985-5900. The hotel operator, Doubletree Hotels Corp., will begin taking reservations March 1 at a toll-free number, (800) 222-8733. The hotel is to reopen April 3.

Rooms won't be cheap. The corporate weekday rate will be $109 to $129, said General Manager Gary D. Walton. On weekends, rooms will be $79 to $99 to the public.
