TOASTER SPARKS BLACKSBURG FIRE

A faulty toaster oven is being blamed for a Blacksburg house fire Tuesday.

Blacksburg firefighters were called to 1903 Lacy Lane, a house belonging to Bill Claussen, at 12:02 p.m.

The fire started in the kitchen from a short in the cord of a toaster oven, said Keith Bolte, chief of the Blacksburg Fire Department. The fire - which had been smoldering for some time - caused heavy damage to the kitchen and smoke damage to all of the second story of the house, Bolte said.

Nobody was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported by the 17 firefighters who responded. Bolte estimated the damage to the home at $30,000.
