MAN CRITICALLY WOUNDED; WIFE HELD

A 24-year-old Southeast Roanoke woman was charged with shooting and critically wounding her husband early Tuesday, police said.

Police found Mark David Wofford, 24, on the living room floor of his home at 907 Jamison Ave. about 2:25 a.m. with gunshot wounds to the chest and the groin. He was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where police Tuesday said he was in critical condition. The hospital would not release information.

Wofford's wife, Kimberly Renee Wofford, 24, was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm. She was in Roanoke City Jail under $25,000 bond.

Police say a .40-caliber gun found at the house was the weapon used in the shooting.
