NORTHSIDE CLINCHES SHARE OF DISTRICT TITLE

Ben Peete scored all 18 of his points on 3-pointers as Northside locked up a share of the Blue Ridge District boys` title with a 78-51 victory over winless Rockbridge County on Tuesday night at Northside's gym.

The Vikings (15-5 overall, 8-1 district) led 37-16 at halftime lead and never trailed.

Dana Gibson scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for Northside as the Vikings shot 53 percent (32-for-60) from the field.

Jayme Terrell had 23 points, including five 3-pointers, for the Wildcats (0-19, 0-9).

LOW MOOR - James Hughes scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half and the Mountaineers had four scorers in double figures in the Blue Ridge District rout.

Rashad Worth also scored 13 for Alleghany (11-7, 4-5), which led 29-19 at halftime and broke open the game with a 16-7 third-quarter advantage. Donnie Costigan and Dusty Rowland each added 11 for the Mountaineers.

Lord Botetourt (9-10, 2-7) was led by Shannon Williams' nine points.

In a preview of next week's Roanoke Valley District tournament matchup, the Eagles edged the Patriots for the second time this season.

Franklin County (11-8, 3-4), which won 54-53 in Rocky Mount, broke open a tight game early in the fourth quarter on a pair of three-point plays by K.C. Hancock, who led all scorers with 27 points.

PH (6-13, 0-8) shot 60 percent from the field, but could not overcome 20 turnovers. Chris Combs and Brooks Berry had 20 and 16 points, respectively, for the Patriots.

NEW CASTLE - The Fighting Blues held Craig County to just six points in the first quarter as they blasted the Rockets in the Pioneer District.

Nathan Floyd led all scorers with 22 points on 8-of-9 shooting for Parry McCluer (15-6, 8-4). Brandon Garrett added 21 points and 10 rebounds for the Fighting Blues and Mike McElroy scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers.

Craig County (3-15, 1-9) was led by Robbie Huffman's 18 points and nine rebounds.

MARTINSVILLE - The Chiefs pulled away in the fourth quarter by using defensive pressure in the Virginia Independent Conference game.

Carlisle (18-2, 15-1) outscored Roanoke Valley Christian 37-13 in the final quarter to break open what had been a five-point game.

Bryant Redd led Carlisle with 21 points, and Ronticus Hairston and Rod Mitchell had 16 each. Joel Nester led RVC (10-11, 5-8) with 21 points.

Jason Spear hit two late 3-pointers to lift the visitors over the Celtics in a Virginia Independent Conference game.

Spear finished with 15 points - nine in the fourth quarter - and teammate Jon Philips scored seven of his game-high 18 in the period as the two combined for 16 of Timeberlake Christian's 20 points.

P.L. Bratton tried to keep Roanoke Catholic in the game by scoring nine of his team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough. Tony Joyce added 11 for the Celtics, but he had only three in the second half.

CHATHAM - Mark Levan made a key steal with 15 seconds left in regulation and Brian Whittaker scored on a put-back at the buzzer to send the Raiders into overtime, and North Cross beat the Tigers in the Virginia Independant Conference game.

In the overtime, Skip Johnson made a tip-in with 12 seconds left and Hargrave Military missed two shots in the final seconds.

Levan finished with seven points, five assists and four steals for North Cross (10-9, 7-6), and Johnson and Whittaker each scored 13 points. Hal Johnson led the Raiders with a game-high 27 points and 14 rebounds.

Patrick Roberts led Hargrave (10-9, 6-7) with 23 points and P.J. Short and Rohn Lee each added 16 points.
