Tyson's release date had been set back to May 9, 1995 after he was disciplined in May 1992 for threatening a guard and for disorderly conduct at the Indiana Youth Center in Plainfield.
But Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner H. Christian DeBruyn decided recently to lift the added penalty days after discussing Tyson's case with staff members who supervise adult discipline in the prison system, DOC spokeswoman Pam Pattison said Monday.
She said the commissioner was convinced that Tyson's misconduct was due to a prison adjustment problem because it came so early in his term. Tyson has been a model prisoner since then, according to the DOC.
Tyson was sentenced to six years in prison on March 26, 1992, but his sentence has been reduced a day for each day of good behavior.
