BULLDOGS WRAP UP PIEDMONT CROWN

Martinsville made only two fourth-quarter field goals, but managed to hold off Dan River 63-60 on Tuesday night to clinch the Piedmont District title and a Region III playoff berth in boys' basketball.

Martinsville, (16-4, 16-2 Piedmont) converted on eight of 11 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter. Dan River missed a 3-point attempt to tie at the buzzer.

Reserve Jason Agnew led Martinsville with 18 points while Michael Martin added 16 and Carlos Martin 14. The Bulldogs made 18 of 27 free throws while Dan River was five-of-seven.

Steven Guy scored 27 points for Dan River to lead all scorers, and Erick Ferguson scored 17 for the Wildcats.
