EXPLORE WORKSHOPS TEACH SKILLS OF AMERICAN INDIANS
Moccasin making, folded bark basket construction, fingerweaving and
friction firemaking will be among a series of workshops in American Indian
skills being offered at Virginia's Explore Park. The workshops will be led by
the park's Native American interpreter, Dan Abbott, who promises to, in some
instances, lead participants on forages in the forest to find natural
materials for use in demonstrations. Abbott, a descendent of the
Naticoke-Choptank tribe, will also share his first-hand knowledge about the
traditional lifeways of the American Indian people.
The first workshop, diagonal weave fingerweaving, will be offered on Feb.
19. For costs and schedules, call 427-1800.
