BENEFIT CONCERT

FLOYD - Ray's Restaurant on U.S. 221 will sponsor a benefit for the Raymond Howell family Sunday from 7 to 10 p.m. The Broken Reins Band, of which Howell is a member, will perform.

Raymond and Donna Howell and their four children lost their home to a fire last month. Supporters in the Floyd community are accepting donations to help the family with the loss.

Admission Sunday at Ray's Restaurant is $5. Donations also will be accepted at the door.

Holiday schedules

PULASKI - Garbage collection in Pulaski County and Radford will not be interrupted on President's Day Monday, but Pulaski County offices will be closed.

Nominees sought

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Coalition for Community is looking for nominees for its community service awards.

Four groups of people will be chosen for their community-building activities.

Submit nominations to the Coalition for Community, P.O. Box 394, Christiansburg, Va., 24073 by April 3. An award dinner is scheduled for April 27 at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Blacksburg at 7 p.m.

Special Olympics

BLACKSBURG - Special Olympics will hold a regional basketball tournament Sunday, 12:45 p.m., Cassell Coliseum, Virginia Tech.

Nearly 300 athletes from 30 teams in the Roanoke Valley, the New River Valley, Danville, Lynchburg, Lexington and Bristol will compete in the event.

Volunteer registration begins at 11:45 a.m. Admission is free.
