BASIC RHYMER PRIMER

Although Shakespeare's Romeo was the inspiration for the title of a book of two-liners on life by the brothers Davidson, there's little other connection between them and the bard of Avon.

``Rhymeos (RYE-mee-ohs) of Life,'' written under the pen name Cyrano De Words-u-lac, is a self-published rhymer primer akin to the popular little instruction books, but with a twist. Salem chiropractor and author Dr. Dan, along with brother Dave, a foreign missionary, call their couplets ``poetic proverbs to help us see, what our lives today could be.''

It's a flip-to-any-page collection of sounds bytes for life's strifes in the '90s. ``We think people can open it up anywhere and three or four rhymeos will hit home,'' said Dr. Dan.

Topics range from health (``I'd feast on food fat-free and move more aerobically'') to fidelity (``I'd be a faithful lover not looking for another'') to mothers-in-law - yes, they even say something nice about them.

With the first printing of 4,000 quickly on its way to selling out in local bookstores, a second printing is on its way any day, with 80 added rhymeos and a name change - ``If I could live my life again, I'd begin today and then ... Rhymeos of life.''

More rhymeo books are planned on baseball (``Don't kick the ump in the rump''), romance, diet and Christmas. You can compose your own rhymeos and send them in to the Rhymeo Writer's Quill Guild, 3529 Keagy Rd., Salem 24153.

``Rhymeos of Life'' can be yours at local bookstores for $5.95 plus tax, no more.

Roll over, Shakespeare.
