THE PEOPLE COLUMN

Tom Clancy has another best-seller - and he didn't even have to write it.

Clancy simply ``created'' the book ``Tom Clancy's Op-Center,'' inventing the plot and characters along with Steve Pieczenik. Jeff Rovin actually wrote the book.

Clancy said he doesn't think he's misleading fans.

``George Lucas didn't write all the `Star Wars' books,'' he said. ``Gene Roddenberry didn't write all the `Star Trek' books.''

An NBC miniseries starring Harry Hamlin, which airs Feb. 26-27, draws upon the same characters as the book but has a different plot.

Will Smith's wife thinks her marriage to The Fresh Prince has gotten pretty stale.

Sheree Smith filed for divorce Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences.

``The couple are making the announcement to foreclose tabloidian speculation,'' spokesman Stan Rosenfield said.

The Smiths, both 26, married in May 1992. They have a 2-year-old son, Williard C. ``Trey'' Smith III.

Will Smith stars in TV's ``Fresh Prince of Bel Air.''
