Rowe Furniture sells warehouse

Rowe Furniture Corp., Arlington-based manufacturer with operation in Salem, said Thursday its Rowe Properties Inc. subsidiary has completed a previously announced sale of its 175,000-square-foot warehouse in Sylmar, Calif. The gain, after taxes, is approximately $3 million and will be included in Rowe's first-quarter financial results.

Markets closing for holiday

U.S. stock and financial markets will be closed Monday for the Presidents' Day holiday. The weekly auction of Treasury bills will be postponed until Tuesday. The Roanoke Times & World-News on Tuesday will publish business news pages but not financial tables. Financial tables and the results of the Treasury auction will be reported in Wednesday's editions.

Sears Merchandise Group, the retail unit of Chicago-based Sears, Roebuck & Co., said Thursday it is seeking an operator for a proposed retail store in Bedford. The store would sell appliances, electronics and lawn and garden equipment. It is one of 300 such stores Sears has nationwide in which independent dealers provide the facility and employees and Sears provides the merchandise.

Tay-Jee Software, a Lexington computer software developer, has signed its second retail distribution contract, with Value Software Corp. of West Palm Beach, Fla. The contract calls for packaging and distribution of 10,000 of Tay-Jee's "Back Soon" intelligent screen-saver program for DOS computers.

AutoZone, a Memphis, Tenn., auto-parts store chain, has opened a store at 1004 Gus Nicks Blvd., Roanoke. The 6,600-square-foot store employs nine people.
