PULASKI COUNTY DROPS FLEMING

In a preview of the Roanoke Valley District tournament, Pulaski County whipped William Fleming 46-28 to claim at least a tie for the regular-season title in a girls' game on Thursday.

It was senior night for the Cougars (18-2 overall, 10-1 RVD) and Pulaski's three seniors finished as the top scorers. Kim Cruise led the seniors with 16 points. Jodie Hallett added 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Kim Cruise recorded nine points, five steals, and two blocks.

Felecia Manns led the Colonels (12-7, 4-7) with 12 points.

Pulaski, which has a one-game lead over Cave Spring in the RVD race with one game remaining in the regular season, will face Franklin County on the road Saturday night. William Fleming plays host to the Knights tonight.

Natalie Giles scored 10 of her 11 points in the fourth quarter to help the visiting Eagles pull away from the Patriots in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Giles hit both of her 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as Franklin County outscored Patrick Henry 20-14 to take command. Betty Smith added 16 points and Sarah Jones 14 for the Eagles.

Patrick Henry was led by Erin Rutherford, who scored 11 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter. Carrie Moore added 10.

Christiansburg 64

Giles 55

CHRISTIANSBURG - John Hairston scored eight of his 14 points in the fourth quarter as the Blue Demons dropped the Spartans in a non-district game.

Donald Thompson scored seven straight points to open the third quarter for Christiansburg (17-3) as it broke open a five-point game.

Josh Stephenson led Giles (9-11) with 16 points.

Roanoke Catholic 62

Holy Cross 59

The Celtics survived offensive lapses in the second and fourth quarters to win a Virginia Independent Conference game.

P.L. Bratton led Roanoke Catholic (9-15, 7-7) with 21 points, Brendan McCarthy had 13 and Tony Joyce 12.

The Celtics were outscored 36-22 in the second and fourth quarters but managed to hold on for the victory.

Abe Hughes led the Gaels with 19 points and Roger Collinear had 17.

North Cross 79

Lynchburg Christian 67

The Raiders held on to a 10-point halftime lead and beat the Bulldogs in a VIC game.

Skip Johnson led North Cross (11-10, 8-6) with a career-high 19 points in the victory. Hal Johnson scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Raiders. Brian Whittaker had 12 points and John Prilliman added 15 points.

Trent Richardson led Lynchburg Christian (11-11, 6-8) with 21 points.
