JAMES RIVER PINS DOWN TITLE

James River won five individual titles en route to the Pioneer District wrestling championship Friday night at Glenvar High School.

The Knights scored 154 points. Glenvar (120) was second, followed by Parry McCluer (111), Covington (101) and Bath County (78).

Four of James River's titles came at the expense of Glenvar wrestlers. At 125 pounds, Shawn Brown pinned Roy Crowe in 4 minutes, 50 seconds. Then, teammate Robert Spangler won a major decision over the Highlanders' Joe Whitlock 10-2 at 130. The Knights' Michael Broughman decisioned Dan Robertson 8-5 at 160, and Kevin Peery pinned Brock Reed in 24 seconds at 171.

The Knights' two other titles came at 140 and 145. Seth Mowles pinned Matt Henson of Parry McCluer in 3:17 at 140, and Randy Brown pinned Covington's Nathan Brown in 5:00 at 145.

James River advances to the Region C championships Feb. 25.
