EAGLES WRESTLE TO RVD TITLE

Franklin County retained its team title and four individuals defended championships in the Roanoke Valley District wrestling tournament Saturday at Cave Spring High School.

The Eagles won the team title with 212.5 points, nudging Pulaski County, which amassed 186.5 points.

The surprising Cougars had a slim chance of unseating Franklin County with two matches left in the championship round, but Adam Flora (112 pounds) and Trung Nguyen (103) defeated Pulaski County opponents to secure the victory for the Eagles.

Nguyen successfully defended his district title, as did John Muse of Franklin County at 152 pounds, Bryan Jones of the Eagles (140) and Herbert Kasey of William Fleming (135).

The top four individuals in each weight class advance to the Northwest Region tournament Friday and Saturday at Franklin County.

Franklin County had six individual champions: Eric Ingram (heavyweight), Ivan Trotter (130), Muse (152), Jones (140), Flora (112) and Nguyen (103).

Pulaski County's individual champions were Steve Osborne (189), J.R. Osborne (171), Spencer Hite (145) and Brian McGinnis (125).

Other individual winners were Jonathan Rosser (160) and Maurice Lacy (119) of William Fleming. The Colonels finished third overall with 118 points.
