DICKSON HITS 1,000, BUT CELTICS FALL

Roanoke Catholic's Abby Dickson scored the 1,000th point of her high school career, but it wasn't enough to keep Roanoke Catholic from losing to Lynchburg Christian 50-38 in Saturday's championship game of the Blue Ridge Conference girls' basketball tournament.

Dickson scored nine points in her final game and ended up with 1,004 points in four years with Roanoke Catholic, which ended the season at 15-7.

Teresa Monsour led Catholic with a game-high 17 points.

Liz Summers scored 12 points, and Diane Norman and Mandy Britt each added 10.

Lynchburg Christian outrebounded the Celtics 50-19.

Stuart Hall 47

Jennifer Davis and Jeanette Jackson combined to score 38 of Stuart Hall's 47 points as Stuart Hall beat Roanoke Valley Christian in the consolation game of the Blue Ridge Conference girls' tournament at North Cross.

Davis hit four of five free throws late in the game and scored a game-high 20 points to lead Stuart Hall (11-8). Jackson scored five of her 12 second-half points in the fourth quarter and finished with 18.

Roanoke Valley Christian (14-8) was led by Rebecca Bryant, who scored 16, and Gina Guthrie added 10.

Pulaski County 56

Franklin County 42

ROCKY MOUNT - Carrie McConnell made all 10 of her fourth-quarter free throws and the Cougars rolled past the Eagles to capture the Roanoke Valley District regular-season title.

Pulaski County led 31-29 after three quarters and outscored Franklin County 25-13 in the final period. The Cougars sank 23 of 30 free throws, 15-of-16 in the fourth quarter, while the Eagles missed 11 of 12 foul shots in the last period.

Kim Cruise led Pulaski County with 20 points and McConnell had 15.

Sandy Hudson had 10 for Franklin County.

Craig County 49

NEW CASTLE - Glenvar took advantage of the Rockets' cold shooting in the first half and cruised to the Pioneer District victory.

The Rockets (3-19, 1-11) made only four of 20 shots in the first half and committed 19 turnovers. Glenvar made 20 of 29 shots in the first half and James Williams scored 13 of his team-high 15 in the first half - 11 in the second quarter.

Corey Willis added 11 points and Craig Stone and Eric East had 10 each.

Robby Huffman scored 21 points and Chris Blankenship 10 for Craig County.
