BATH CAPS BEST SEASON

Kris Phillips made 11 of 12 free throws in the fourth quarter as Bath County clinched its best season ever in boys' basketball by beating Covington 63-58 on Saturday in a Pioneer District game.

If Glenvar can beat last-place Craig County today, then the Highlanders will force a three-way tie with Bath County and Covington in the district standings.

The Chargers (15-5 overall, 9-3 district), who played before their largest crowd ever, took advantage of free-throw opportunities, making 25 of 32 shots. Phillips hit 13 of 14 free throws in the game and scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter.

Covington (13-7, 9-3) was led by Robert Roman, who scored 15 points, and Erwin Twitty, who added 13.
