The talk will be based on his book ``The Black Cuban.''

Koumparakis-Moss, a Martinsville native living in Normandy, Mo., has photographs in the permanent collection of St. Louis University's Busch Center Memorial Gallery, where she is an adjunct curator.

Music gala

The big band sounds of Charlie Goodwin's Orchestra will open an evening of music March 4 at the Ramada Inn, Duffield, as Clinch Valley College presents the Glen Smith Music Gala.

The gala is in memory of Glen Smith, a musician who lived in Norton until his death in 1993.

The Goodwin Orchestra and other musicians have donated their talents for the event. Proceeds from ticket sales will establish a scholarship at the college for instrumental musicians.

Tickets, at $50 per person, include heavy hors d'oeuvres and punch. A cash bar will be available. For ticket information, call 328-6826 or 328-0129.

Ramada Inn will offer a special double room rate of $40, including two breakfasts, for those attending the event.
