ROANOKE REGIONAL ECONOMIC INDICATORS

The cost of living rose at its fastest rate in more than two years last month, based on the government's Consumer Price Index. The measure of inflation at the consumer level registered 150.3 points in January, the Labor Department reported last week.

It was 145.8 points in January 1994 and 149.7 points in December 1994. That means a collection of goods and services that cost $145.80 a year ago cost $150.30 last month.

The index uses 1982-84 prices as its base. If it were still using 1967 as its base year of $100, the same goods and services would have cost $450.30 today.
