Lowe's Cos. Inc., a North Wilkesboro, N.C., building supply chain with stores in the Roanoke Valley, reported net earnings of $223.6 million, or $1.39 per share, on sales of $6.11 billion for its fiscal year ended Jan. 31, compared with year-earlier $131.8 million, or 89 cents per share, on sales of $4.54 billion. Fourth-quarter net earnings were $46.3 million, or 28 cents per share, on sales of $1.49 billion, compared with year-earlier $25.7 million, or 17 cents per share, on sales of $1.15 billion.
May Department Stores
May Department Stores Co., St. Louis-based parent of the Hecht's and Payless ShoeSource chains, reported net earnings of $782 million, or $2.92 per share, on sales of $11.88 billion for its fiscal year ended Jan. 28, compared with year-earlier $711 million, or $2.65 per share, on sales of $10.99 billion. Fourth-quarter net earnings were $401 million, or $1.51 per share, on sales of $3.87 billion, compared with year-earlier $365 million, or $1.37 per share, on sales of $3.57 billion.
Revco
Revco D.S. Inc., Twinsburg, Ohio, operator of Revco drug stores, reported net income of $17.7 million, or 27 cents per share, on sales of $1.13 billion for its third quarter ended Feb. 4, compared with year-earlier $12.5 million, or 25 cents per share, on sales of $621.2 million. For the nine months, net income was $25.7 million, or 40 cents per share, on sales of $2.85 billion, compared with year-earlier $18.5 million, or 37 cents per share, on sales of $1.69 billion.
Unilever
Unilever, the Anglo-Dutch parent of Elizabeth Arden Co. of Roanoke, said 1994 net profit was the foreign-currency equivalent of $2.39 billion, or $8.53 per share, on revenues of $45.42 billion, compared with year-earlier $1.95 billion, or $6.96 per share, on revenues of $41.88 billion. Fourth-quarter net profit was $639 million, or $2.44 per share, on revenues of $11.89 billion, compared with year-earlier $307 million, or $1.09 per share, on revenues of $10.91 billion.
