Army Pvt. Charles D. Duncan Jr., son of Charles D. Duncan Sr. of Riner, is undergoing advanced infantry training at Fort Lee.

Airman Brad L. Roop, son of Jack L. and Janet L. Roop of Radford, recently completed basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a graduate of Radford High School.

James D. Miles and Franklin P. Gibson, employees of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Acquisition Information Systems Activity in Radford, recently were given Length of Service awards for 35 years of service. William N. White Jr. was given an award for 25 years of service.

Marine Pvt. Jay B. Wynn, son of Jack and Joyce Wynn of Christiansburg, recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C. He is a 1993 graduate of Christiansburg High School.

Navy Seaman Recruit Heidi R. Weddle, daughter of Anne M. Weddle of Radford, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Recruit James L. Zahn, son of James E. and Kasella A. Zahn of Radford, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Navy Seaman Recruit Karina L. Pope, daughter of Darrell M. Pope of Narrows, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Marine Pfc. Bentley O. Ratcliffe, son of Marci Bishop of Blacksburg, recently completed recruit training at Parris Island, S.C., and was promoted to his present rank. He is a 1993 graduate of Giles High School. She is a 1994 graduate of Narrows High School.

SPC David M. Love recently graduated from U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Ga. He is the son of Johnny and Connie Love of Blacksburg.

Navy Seaman Recruit James E. Harmon, son of Martha M. Tavera of Pearisburg, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill. He is a 1994 graduate of Giles High School.
