"I truly regret having to make this decision," said Poff, a regional supervisor with the FAA. "I have spent many hours trying to come up with options to allow me to do both very important jobs, but I have found no other option than to give up my seat on this board. This decision was not an easy one to have to make."
Poff has been on the board three years.
Meanwhile, Chairman Nelson Harris said Thursday he will seek a second three-year term.
Harris, pastor of Ridgewood Baptist Church, has been chairman since last year, when he succeeded Charles Day. He was elected chairman after he lost a bid for City Council last year.
Some friends and supporters said Harris might have even more influence as School Board chairman than as a city councilman.
Harris said he tries to ensure that the board works together as a team and tries to keep a good working relationship with City Council.
The seats of Harris and Poff are the only two up for appointment this year. School Board members are appointed by City Council.
The deadline for applicants is March l0. Harris said he will file his application next week. No other applications have been filed.
