RAIDERS ARE BURNED BY FLAMES

Ryan Yoder scored 15 points as Eastern Mennonite ripped North Cross 72-43 in the quarterfinals of the Virginia Independent Conference Thursday at Lynchburg College.

Eastern Mennonite (12-12) will play Fishburne Military 6:30 p.m today in the semifinals .

Ryan Strite and Doug Blyer each added 10 for the Flames.

North Cross, which finishes 11-11, was led by Hal Johnson's 17 points.

In other VIC quarterfinals:

Fishburne Military 71, Roanoke Catholic 58: Ryan Blosser scored 25 points to lead Fishburne past the Celtics.

Catholic was in trouble from the start, falling behind by 16 points in the first quarter, and never recovered

Fishburne advances to meet Eastern Mennonite. Matt Williams added 16 points, and Fishburne hit 14 of 17 free throws to Roanoke Catholic's 0-for-4 shooting.

Tony Joyce scored 19 points to lead the Celtics (9-16), P.L. Bratton added 18 points and 15 rebounds.

Carlisle 87, Hargrave Military 65: Rod Mitchell poured in 20 points to lead the Chiefs over the Tigers.

Carlisle (20-2) will play Miller School in today's 8 p.m. semifinal.

The Chiefs started the game with a 13-0 run and led 21-4 before Hargrave began to battle back. The Tigers pulled to 12 points in the third quarter, but Mitchell made back-to-back 3-pointers to keep Carlisle on top.

Bryant Redd added 19 for the Chiefs, and Joseph McClinton scored 18.

Piedmont Tournament

Martinsville 69, Bassett 60: Martinsville built a 13-point halftime lead and held off Bassett in a semifinal at the Bengals' gym.

The Bulldogs will play the winner of tonight's semifinal between Laurel Park and Fieldale-Collinsville in the championship 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Bassett. Mike Martin scored 25 points and Manti Venable added 22 for Martinsville, which is looking to send coach Husky Hall out with another state title in his final season.

Tyree Hairston scored 17 points and Chris Hairston added 10 for the Bengals, who cut their deficit to six points but could not get any closer in the fourth quarter.

Mountain Empire

Narrows 59, Grayson County 56: Bryan Pruett scored eight of Narrows' 14 fourth-quarter points as the fourth-seeded Green Wave rolled back top-seeded Grayson County in the semifinals at George Wythe High.

Narrows advances to play second-seeded Rocky Gap in today's 8 p.m championship.

Pruett led Narrows with 23 points and Scott Vaught added 14.

Grayson County, the regular season champion, still advances into the Region C Tournament, as does the winner of tonight's game.

Chad Shaffner led the Blue Devils with 19 points.

Rocky Gap 70, Fort Chiswell 51: Nathan Blessing scored 17 points as the Eagles dropped the Pioneers in a semifinal game.Brad Shaw added 14 for Rocky Gap.

Jody Burnett paced Fort Chiswell with 15 points.

Hogoheegee District

George Wythe 80, Castlewood 64: Aaron Andrews scored 18 points to lead the Maroonsin the semifinals. Jon Ervin added 15 points for George Wythe (18-5).

Wythe will play tonight at 8 p.m. against PH-Glade Spring for the district tournament title.

Jason Monk led Castlewood (13-9) with 20 points.
